Jayne Treadwell
Founder and Director
East Country Hoedowners Clogging Team
Est. February 11, 1991
Jayne is a 3rd generation clogger who comes from a true clogging background...31 years ago her granddaddy taught her to clog in his barn! In addition to her clogging classes in Wilson, Greenville and surrounding areas, Jayne conducts private workshops for clogging teams. She is also a popular instructor at clogging and dance workshops in North Carolina, Virginia, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Tennessee, Kentucky and Germany.
Jayne teaches traditional southern Appalachian mountain freestyle routines, buck dancing, freestyling, traditional figures and movements for big circle and four-couple sets, flatfootin', as well as choreographed line and interactive clogging routines. She conducts "how to" seminars on such subjects as teaching beginners - including tips for introducing them to performing, teaching tiny tots, attracting children to your classes, conducting
successful multi-generational recreational classes, running successful
public fun dances, creative costuming on a shoestring budget, tips for using ClogAmp music player (click here for Help Notes), and the "business" of teaching clogging classes.
"Building on the Basic", Jayne's first instructional DVD, teaches you how to use the two step combination that ALL clogging steps are built upon -- known worldwide as "the Basic" -- to create over 200 fun and simple step combinations. Feedback has been overwhelmingly positive as cloggers everywhere discover that it's not how many steps you know, but what you do with those steps that counts!
Jayne has a passion and love for clogging that is unsurpassed in the area. She is able to teach and connect with people of all ages. Able to keep her finger on the pulse of her audience, she responds to their level which enables people of all ages to feel successful in her classes and workshops. Her "down-home" style and infectious enthusiasm combined with her unique, relaxed and easy to follow step-by-step teaching methods make learning to clog fast, fun and easy!
Being a student of this Appalachian percussive tradition, Jayne has a keen understanding of the evolution of clogging. She keeps the tradition alive by sharing her knowledge with others and by educating others about clogging's historical roots. Jayne is one of the very few people who is equally versed in modern clogging (often referred to as "precision" clogging) and traditional clogging. She believes that whether you clog competitively or for fitness, fellowship and fun, clogging is truly a dance for all!
